The Colt Army Model 1860 is a muzzle-loaded cap & ball 44-caliber revolver that was used during the war between the states, the Civil War.  It was made by the Colt Manufacturing Company and was used as a sidearm by all of the military branches.  The frame of the Colt 1860 Army is the same size as the 36-caliber Navy Revolver Model 1851, however the frame uses a rebated cylinder that allows the 44-caliber load.  The barrel has a shorter forcing cone which allows for a longer cylinder.  Over 200,000 were manufactured from 1860 through 1873.  Over half of the guns were purchased and issued to military troops.  This single-action, six-shot gun was accurate up to 75-100 yards which is what the sights were set at when manufactured  The rotating cylinder fired a round lead projectile that was propelled by a charge of black powder that was ignited by a percussion cap.  When the cap was struck by the hammer the powder charge is ignited and the lead projectile (ball) had a muzzle velocity of about 900 feet per second.

This reproduction gun is the ideal gift for anyone that likes to collect guns or old west mememorabilia.  Excellent for display use on a stand or in a box.  Use in the office, study, library or den as a decorative accent.
